“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ” 2 Corinthians 9:7

In addition to supporting Lakemore UMC and our local activities, giving to a United Methodist Church helps people all over the world.  Check out umcgiving.org to find out where our shared giving goes!

Finance Update   (3/28/2020)

I want to bring several financial matters in front of you.  First off, I want to thank all of you for a solid 2019.  We were able to meet all of our financial obligations in 2019, including 100% of our shared ministry portion.  That would not be     possible without your giving and continued stewardship of the gifts God has   given to you.  The end of 2019 was particularly strong, and left us in a great    position going into 2020.  I like to think that God foresaw 2020 starting the way that it has, and therefore He provided some extra financial cushion.

We are certainly in some exceptional times today.  COVID-19 and the response to it is impacting everyone in one way or another.  I hope that all of you are able to stay safe during this time.  As you may know, LUMC has suspended  Sunday church service as of March 15th.  As a result, our weekly giving is substantially lower and the cushion that we had at the beginning of the year is shrinking by the day.  Even though Sunday services aren’t being held our expenses remain relatively the same, especially since we are continuing to pay our staff (which is one of our top priorities).        I want to let you know that if you would like to continue to give and/or tithe during this hiatus, it would be greatly  appreciated and we can help facilitate that.  A couple possibilities are 1) mailing a check to the church or 2) signing up for online giving through Vanco.  If you have any questions about how you can continue to give during this time, please reach out to the church office.

I also understand that many people are experiencing extra financial hardship as a result of the response to COVID-19.  Please know that if you find yourself in this camp we certainly understand that your priorities have changed and, as a result, your financial giving to the church may as well.  I would also encourage those of you in this camp to reach out to Pastor Jeff or the church office, as we may be able to provide some extra assistance or direct you to it.

Lastly, during this time, the church needs to be even more discerning when it comes to utilizing our funds.  Especially for now, please check with Ruth Rex (our treasurer) before making any purchases that would ultimately need to be funded by the church.  This includes utilizing church credit cards and spending your own money that you would seek reimbursement for.  Our priorities have also had to change over these past few weeks, and things that would have been authorized a month ago might need to be postponed for now.

Thanks again to all of you for your faithful service to our Lord and Savior.  I pray that all of you are safe and continue to be so.

Your brother in Christ,

Jeff Burdette (Finance Committee Chair)
